Ask the Web Fu Master
by Tim Lehnerer
He'll find your rare movie on the Internet – or work up a good sweat trying.

September 16 2002

Cry it from the rooftops and post notice in all the winesinks: The third edition of “Ask the Web Fu Master” has been completed. Thanks to all who wanted to know things about movies.

First up we have “ShevaBree”, who wants to know what movie involved a man with a nail-studded baseball bat versus a giant rat that lived in the walls of his house. Oh, that old plot again. It’s called Of Unknown Origin and I’m pretty sure that Peter Weller keeps this one off his resume now. Amazon has it; they would like fifteen American dollars for it. There’s a Z-shop on Amazon selling it for four-fifty plus shipping; how can you refuse?

All hail Dr. Freex and MarvellousM! They both say the martial arts movies from the last selection are most likely the first Drunken Master or The Young Master, both starring Jackie Chan (for the first film) and the first Once Upon a Time in China film for the second. Thanks, guys. You may consider yourselves to be masters of Tiger Claw Web Fu.

I impressed Gina Roberts by answering her question last time. Now she wants me to find two movies—neither of which I was able to track down. As far as I can tell “More Wild Wild West” and “Wild Wild West Revisited” were never given a commercial US video release. Still, I’ll keep looking and I might surprise myself. Sure, that piece of dreck with Kevin Kline and Will Smith is available at every 7-Eleven in the county for eight bucks, but I can’t find this with the global telecommunications network literally at my fingertips.

Harris Smith wants a copy of the Anthony Perkins film Pretty Poison. The people at http://www.k-e-n.com/miscfilms.html want to sell it to him. Good luck and thank you, Harris. I needed one I could answer. Ten bucks for film, three bucks for shipping. Enjoy.

“Kendra” wants to know about a movie where a secret society of high school athletes called the Sentinels is fought by the hero and the girlfriend of one of the Sentinels. I did a LOT of searches for this one and came up empty handed. Is Kendra hallucinating? I have no idea. Anyone out there qualified to answer this one?

A reader on Jabootu’s message boards wants to know the name of an English horror movie from the 70s that features killer occult-powered kids, an exploding boat, and an end with children running off a cliff like lemmings into the sea.

So would I. I did find a gigantic list of English horror movie titles at http://www.edhouse.clara.net/filmatoz.html ; maybe it will jog someone’s memory. I don’t have the slightest idea. There’s been no love from Ebay, Google or Half.com today and I’m wondering if the third time’s the curse for me.

I can’t do these columns unless people want me to find stuff for them; please send all web fu requests to telstarman@yahoo.com or to the Stomp Tokyo guys; they’ll forward them to me and hopefully I’ll find ‘em or get the word out to my loyal and knowledgeable readers, who have already stepped forward to help me out once. Thanks again, guys.

That’s it for this session, which is shaping up to be pretty frustrating for me so far. But hey, I got the giant rat movie one so it wasn’t a total wash.
