Chadzilla's News Roundup for Friday the 13th of June, 2003

Both Fangoria and DVD File are reporting that Paramount is now in serious plans to reissue the eight Friday the 13th movies on DVD with some bells and whistles. Just what the extras are (or if the movies themselves will be restored, uncut editions) is still not known. Good thing I passed on the bare bones DVDs the first time around, huh?

May 17th saw Seduction Cinema's star contract girl Misty Mundae appearing in the music video of the hardcore band Punishment's latest song, "Rising". The video has the soft-core starlet stalked by Anthony (Dead Gerber Babies) Montone before she turns the table on him with a switchblade. Plans are already in the making to include the video as an extra on some future SC DVD releases.

First Groom Lake, now Spplat Attack? William Shatner's website offers a movie "based on the largest paintball battle ever". The movie is said to capture both "raw paintball action" and the "drama of the event". Insert joke here. Shatner's website is also offering a Shatner Priceline Bobblehead, just to bookend the Kirk one, I guess.

FoyWonder's News Roundup for June 12, 2003

Good morning, Mr. & Mrs. Fanboy and all the geeks at sea…let’s go to press!

DRACULA 3000: INFINITE DARKNESS, the "Dracula on a spaceship in the future" movie that is no relation to DRACULA 2000 or its sequels, has finished filming. You know this one is going to be worth checking out when it gets released on home video early next year just for cast alone. The film stars Erika Eleniak, Tiny “Zeus” Lister, Coolio, and Casper Van Dien. Now that is one hell of a b-movie roll call!

Just a few weeks ago I was joking to a friend of mine about making a movie based on the '80s action series The Fall Guy. Well, seems my joke was actually the subject of a bidding war between Paramount and Warner Brothers and the WB won the battle. So now a big screen version of the Lee Majors series about a Hollywood stunt man and part-time bounty hunter named Colt Seavers, who chases down bail jumpers with his humongous GMC truck and returns them to the City of Angels is in the works. I’ve been joking for years about the possibility of an Automan movie too. Wonder if anyone is trying to develop that property?

The remake of 10 has a cast. Colin Farrell and Kristanna “T3” Loken will now play the roles originated by Dudley Moore and Bo Derek. NW reports that Julie Andrews, who played Moore’s wife in the original, is set to cameo as the mother-in-law this time around. From Dudley Moore to Colin Farrell? I don’t think so. Farrell is too hunky for the part. Casting him totally defeats the purpose.

A live-action TRANSFORMERS movie is finally coming to the big screen. Actually, it’s officially in development. Good luck developing that one. Can you imagine what the budget is going to have to be to do it right and keep in mind that Hollywood is currently in a budget-minded mood. Also in development, a live-action/animated movie version of MR. PEABODY & SHERMAN. I’ll believe the first one when I see it and the last one just has no business being made. You’d think they would have learned their lesson from that ROCKY & BULLWINKLE disaster?

Vin Diesel as LUKE CAGE? That’s who is being talked about for the role of Marvel Comic’s superhero in the feature film version. I wouldn’t put much stock in this one since Diesel’s name is also attached to about 50 other projects that he’ll never touch with a 10-foot pole.

Speaking of comic book movies, MGM has snatched up the rights to Dark Horse’s CRIMINAL MACABRE. If you want to know how out of control the whole comic book craze has gotten in Hollywood then look no further than this. The 1st issue of the series just came out less than a month ago. The comic deals with an occult private investigator with a zombie sidekick who battles werewolves, vampires, etc. Sure it could turn out to be a cool movie but this is MGM we’re talking about. Two words: BULLETPROOF MONK.

Sci-Fi Wire reports that Denise Crosby is prepping a sequel to her hit documentary TREKKIES. Hey, I enjoyed the original but is there really enough out there to make for an entertaining follow-up? Maybe so because this one will focus on Star Trek fandom in other countries across the globe. That could be scary.

You can now add Ja Rule and George Carlin to SCARY MOVIE 3. According to Ain’t It Cool News, Carlin will show up in a scene spoofing The Architect from MATRIX: RELOADED. And yet for some reason I still have no interest in seeing this movie.

According to MTV, a new comedy is in development from executive producer Will Smith called MR. PRESIDENT about a kid who becomes President of the United States. And who is the child President you ask? Are you ready for President Lil’ Bow Wow? The future President told MTV the following about the film. "It's about a teenage kid who wins an essay-writing contest and gets to be the president for a day, but ends up being the head of state permanently. It's gonna be funny. No telling what I'm gonna do in office [but] I'ma be wilding out fo' sho.' [The movie] is a great opportunity for me.” Uh huh. I’m sure it will be as funny as any given episode of She’s The Sheriff.

"It is set in the future, where women run the Earth. Men killed themselves off by ingesting some kind of enhancement drink. Women now get cloned companions, and the two leads are rendered obsolete by a new clone line that promises to be sexier, better listeners and superior lovers." According to AUSTIN POWERS’ director Jay Roach, that is the basic premise of a new comedy called USED GUYS. According to Variety, Roach hasn’t decided if he’ll do it yet but Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller have and already signed on. Apparently the duo will go on the run looking for the legendary "Mantopia" where they can be happy only to discover it's run by Jimmy Kimmel. The premise sounded somewhat promising until that point.

Take if for what you will, but a blurb in Ain’t It Cool News’ Japan report claimed that if GAMERA VS. GODZILLA does get made it won’t be until 2005 at the earliest. Also, Toho is rumored to be planning a big budget remake of the movie known in the West as ATRAGON. Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing the latter and hope they base it on the SUPER ATRAGON anime from the late '90s.

Steven Seagal’s next action film OUT FOR A KILL is set to go straight to video with an August 19th. Now get this. In it, Seagal plays an Archeology Professor in China who learns that the Tongs (Chinese Mafia) are using ancient artifacts to smuggle drugs. He gets framed by the Tongs, sent to prison, released, harassed by the Tongs again, and then decides to go kick ass as only Steven Seagal playing a pudgy, middle-aged archeologist can. Sounds like a real winner.

Bad Movie Alert! SHARK ATTACK 3: MEGALODON makes it’s television debut on the USA Network this Saturday night. Granted the movie will be heavily edited and the film’s best line will be lost but the final third of the flick is still a camp riot. Here’s a link to my review of the movie if you need extra incentive to tune in.

Finally today, a Finnish newspaper reports that a reality TV series is being made about the search for the star of the next EMMANUELLE movie. One can only imagine what kind of challenges those women will be put through. If this ever airs in the US, it better run on cable, and I mean late night Cinemax cable.
