Guide for Prisoner fans

Reader Joe Littrell passes on this interesting bit of news from the BBC:

A dedicated guidebook highlighting locations where the 1967 British TV series The Prisoner was filmed is now available. The book may be purchased online and shipped to locations outside of the UK for about $18 U.S.

FoyWonder's News Roundup for May 21, 2003

Good morning, Mr. & Mrs. Fanboy and all the geeks at sea…let’s go to press!

No more speculation because now it’s really official. Coming soon to a theater (although I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up going straight to video instead) near you will be ANACONDA 2: THE BLACK ORCHID. I have no idea what the “Black Orchid” part of the title is in reference to. Maybe the anaconda this time is some sort of snake/plant hybrid? Who really cares anyway? Still, I will tell you that the movie will be set in Borneo but filmed in Fiji for tax incentive purposes. According to Dark Horizons, Australian actress Maria Theodorakis is tipped for the lead. From Jennifer Lopez to some Aussie actress 98% of the world has never heard of and filming the movie someplace just because they’re offering a considerable tax break…yeah, this just screams direct-to-video movie.

Not a day goes by when we here at Badmovies Dot Net don’t get an email asking us, “Hey, what’s Judge Reinhold up to?” Well, finally there is something to report. Judge Reinhold has signed on to co-star in THE HOLLOW, a modern day retelling of THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW, that I reported on a few months back. Joining him in the movie will be The Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter. One can only hope the Headless Horseman decapitates him. Nick too!

The Z Review has a few details on Jean Claude Van Damme’s upcoming flick AFTER DEATH. “The movie is about a collision between the Triads from Shanghai and Philadelphia. This film is a first for Jean Claude Van Damme as it deals with gangsters and a SIXTH SENSE type plot. Shooting will commence this July and will be shot in Liverpool and America.” Even as vague as that description is, it still sounds incredibly bad. Are there even Triads in Philadelphia?

The hysterical quote of the day award goes to 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS star Paul Walker. "I already have my franchise movie with THE FAST & THE FURIOUS. It's wonderful the way fans react. Everywhere I go around the world, people want to shake my hand or pat me on the back. They quote my lines from the movie. That feels so good. That's why I did 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS and why I'd do a third if the fans want it, but I wasn't ready to commit to SUPERMAN in the same way. I know if somebody had offered me SUPERMAN before I did THE FAST & THE FURIOUS, I wouldn't have thought twice". Okay, first of all, I think most everyone breathes a sigh of relief that he did turn down playing The Man of Steel. That said, anyone who thinks THE FAST & THE FURIOUS is a more lucrative franchise than SUPERMAN needs his or her head examined pronto. And they say blondes are dumb?

With Hollywood in the grips of superhero fever, what’s one more movie? Well, expect a big screen GREEN HORNET movie in the very near future. Actually, this one has been in development hell for over a decade but Superhero Hype reports that Miramax has officially put it on the schedule. I wonder if it will be set in present day because history shows that period superhero movies tend to flop at the box office?

Heath Ledger as the new BATMAN? Ain’t It Cool News reports that Ledger was sighted having a “power lunch” with director Chris Nolan, who is currently working on the next BATMAN movie. Doesn’t really mean anything but anything I can report that gives the impression Ashton Kutcher won’t be playing the Dark Knight is good news.

Bruce Boxleitner needs work and you can make it happen! The actor told Filmforce that TRON 2.0 is indeed a possibility but it all depends on whether or not the new TRON video game does well. Boxleitner, who has apparently tired of doing movies for the PAX network, is telling fans to buy the game when it comes out to help make the sequel happen. Note to Boxleitner: just because you were in the original doesn’t mean they’ll bring you back. See Battlestar Galactica’s Richard Hatch for details.

DOG SOLDIERS: FRESH MEAT is about to begin production. Not sure if this is good or bad news because we know how sequels usually turn out so the odds are against it. None the less, Creature Corner reports the sequel to the cult hit will have a bigger budget this time round and pick up right where the first one left off. More details when they become available.

Variety reports that Eddie Griffin will voice Babe, The Blue Ox in the upcoming live action/CGI PAUL BUNYON movie and let me just say what a fabulous choice that is. After all, when I think of the oxen sidekick of that legendary lumberjack I instantly think it should speak in wisecracking, ghetto-slang. Obviously someone was thinking of Eddie Murphy’s turn as Donkey in SHREK when voice casting for this one.

Not sure what to make of this one but it was announced at the Cannes Film Festival that a live-action version of the Japanese anime series NEON GENESIS EVANGELION is about to begin production. Gainax, the Japanese production company behind Evangelion, and ADV Films, the North American anime distributor that brought the series stateside, will be joining up with Peter Jackson’s WETA Workshop, the New Zealand effects company made famous by their work on Jackson’ LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, to bring this movie to life. Question is, how faithful to the anime will the movie be to its source material and, more importantly, will a mainstream American audience go for it? I mean, SOLARIS bombed and even MATRIX: RELOADED has been getting bad mouthed for being more talky than action oriented so it remains to be seen whether moviegoers stateside will complain when they find out that there’s more to EVANGELION than just giant robots battling aliens.

Finally today, wanna see the website of a certified nutcase? Just head over to www.boycottthematrix.com to read the psychotic ravings of actor Marcus Chong, who played Tank in the original. Chong demanded a quarter of a million dollars to appear in the sequels and if you’ve seen MATRIX: RELOADED then you already know Tank isn’t anywhere in it. Reuters reported that the actor made repeated phone calls of a harassing nature to the filmmakers after his salary demands were not met leading to his arrest on Oct. 18, 2000, five days after his salary negotiations with the studio collapsed. Now the psycho has a website telling his side of the story and he’s also filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit claiming the Wachowski Brothers publicly slandered him and have been trying to blackball him in Hollywood. For that and other delusional ramblings, just pop over to the website and see what is really a mentally disturbed individual crying out for help.

(Editor's note: Mr. Foy is not a licensed psychiatric professional. His diagnosis of Mr. Chong's mental health may be inaccurate.)

FoyWonder's News Roundup for May 19, 2003

The original Universal Soldiers are about to reunite. Dolph Lundgren was being interviewed on ESPN where he spilled the beans that he will be joining up with his old Unisol buddy Jean Claude Vane Damme in STREET FIGHTER 2. No word yet on what role Lundgren will play. All I know is that this raises my level of anticipation regarding the film from “couldn’t care less” to “who am I kidding, I’ll go see it anyway.”

The new Entertainment Weekly has the first pic of the new and not really all that improved Leatherface from the woefully unnecessary TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake. The mask now looks less like a mask and more like make-up designed to make him look like a zombie, if you ask me. Here’s a link to Creature Corner where they posted the pic. Judge for yourself.

Another video game is headed to the big screen in the form of DEAD TO RIGHTS. For whatever reason, Nic Cage has signed on to star. Variety helps explain the critical error of adapting a game like this into a movie, "Cage will play Jack Slate, a disgraced cop who is hell-bent on discovering who murdered his father. The film is designed to have the Hong Kong-style action that has made the game so popular.” A video game for which the primary goal was to make it seem like an interactive movie is going to be made into a movie. There is nothing all that special about this game other than its cinematic elements. Take away the game play aspects and all you’re left with is the plotline to a very generic action picture. Why does Hollywood not understand this?

Take this one with a grain of salt; Kiji Anime claims that Fox is planning to make a series of four DRAGONBALL live-action movies and that the films will be 3-4 hours long. Head over to www.kiji-anime.com and see if you can get your hands on whatever it is they’ve been smoking.
