The Dreamcatcher trailer is up and running, link is at www.fangoria.com. The movie looks very faithful to King's novel and, joy of joys, the notorious weasels (if you've read the book you know about them) seem to have made it into the movie with their manner of, uh, birthing intact. Enjoy.

MY NAME IS SCOTT FOY AND I PAID TO SEE HALF PAST DEAD
But first, the news
Hot on the heels of the announcement of a new MAD MAX movie come word of another franchise being brought back from the dead. This time, Sly Stallone is set to step back into the ring and make ROCKY VI. Interestingly enough, the films budget will only be in the $10 to $15 million dollar range which means this time Stallone may actually be compelled to write an actual script instead of just another over-produced rehash of the original Oscar winner. Seems the story will go a little something like this
50-year-old Rocky Balboa who now runs a youth center is lured out of retirement from the ring for one last fight. Oh, why does this synopsis give me the sinking feeling that the whole movie is going to be just one giant retread of THE CHAMP?
Instead of the usual report about Nic Cage being attached to a comic book film adaptation, this time Mr. Cage himself has commented on the big screen version of GHOST RIDER that hes been periodically attached to. According to Mr. Cage, the script will be finished sometime early next year and will be more kid friendly. A kid friendly movie about a motorcycle-riding demon from hell, huh? Well, thats guaranteed to suck on many levels.
Two corrections to report on, Kevin Smith himself has begun distancing himself from reports that hes co-writing SCARY MOVIE 3 claiming that he only agreed to read the script and do some minor polishing. Also, Moviehole confirms that Angelina Jolie will not be involved with the Linda Lovelace biopic.
The creator of NYPD Blue and Cop Rock, Stephen Bochco, has pitched a sci-fi cop show to the Fox Network entitled NYPD 2069. Is there some reason why futuristic dates ending with the number 9 are used so frequently in titles or have I just been reading too many Marvel comics? Not much is known thus far about the actual premise of the show, but Im guessing it is about New York cops in the year 2069. If the show lasts more than one season, will they have to keep progressively adding a year to the shows title?
Those who actually watch Birds of Prey on the WB, time's almost up. The final episode will air January 15th. Angel will take over the timeslot the following week. (Thus putting it into direct conflict with The West Wing. Oh, the pain! -Ed.)
Finally, Ive struck again. According to Aint It Cool News Moriarty, he got a ton of feedback from readers of my EXTREME OPS and MONSTURD review who wanted to see more of me. Sometimes you should be careful what you wish for because now up at AICN is my exhaustive 8,000 word tirade directed at the latest Steven Seagal atrocity HALF PAST DEAD. This is without question one of the worst movies ever made as there is something fundamentally wrong in every single scene of the movie! Ive been writing this monster for the past several days which is one of the main reasons I havent submitted a news report in a short while. You can head over to AICN and read it for yourself or be lazy and just click right here to be taken right to it. So if you got a few hours to kill, you will probably get a few laughs from reading my epic trashing of a movie that sucked all the joy out of my life for 99 minutes and damn near broke my bad movie watching spirit.
More news, views, and skews to come.

Hi all, I'm back with a new computer and keener eye for what I'm typing in the address box. (One of Chad's previous news updates was sent to the wrong e-mail address. –Ed.) D'oh! Daily Variety reports that Mel Gibson is pocketing a cool 25 million to star in a new Mad Max adventure from George Miller. The project is titled Fury Road and boasts a 104 million dollar budget. The full report is here. In the "there is an obvious joke here, see if you find it" department . . . Fangoria passes on a report on in Variety of the death of film distributor Jerry Gross (whose Jerry Gross Organization unleashed Fulci's Zombie, Lommel's The Boogeyman, and Bloom's Blood Beach on an innocent world). The reports states that Gross was discovered some time after his death on November 20th, which means it was a pretty gross sight. What are you groaning at? Jerry was 62. Also dead is Glenn Quinn, who was found dead December 3rd of a possible drug overdose. In the duh department, DreamWorks announced that The Ring 2 is a go. The studio is asking both director Gore Verbinski and screenwriter Ehren Kruger to return. No word on story, or if it will adapt the Japanese sequels. Jamie (Urban Legend) Blanks has signed to director The Ritual for Tapestry Films. The story is about a group of COLLEGE students who find a group of fellow students is using witchcraft to manipulate others. Gee, why not call it The Craft 2? In the In Production section of Rapid Heart's webpage ( www.rapidheart.com ) we get a look at the poster art for Speed Demon and Leeches. Leeches' campaign tagline is "They will bleed you dry" (emphasis theirs, I swear). Come on guys, you could use the word suck! Both posters feature heaping helpings of beefcake with a token chick in the corner. Leeches also lets you know that being a chick sucks on the poster. Want to see just who is responsible for the killer dodo flick Monsturd, go to www.monsturd.com and watch the Premiere Slide Show. You can also hear the hilarious theme song and watch the trailer, too! Kingdom Hospital, the Stephen King-scripted adaptation of the supernatural themed cult series The Kingdom, is set to air on ABC in the Autumn of 2003. More news as I find it!

Cult DVD Zone, which features listings of DVD releases of interest to cult movie buffs, has been updated. Cult DVD Zone recently passed into the capable hands of Zach Handlen and Martin Leggett, who have upgraded the column to include Region 2 DVD listings as well as Region 1. The latest update covers DVD releases until December 23.

The Naked Truth
CNN has an article this morning about the recent resurgence in celebrity nudity in film.
My favorite quote is from Diane Lane, who says "Nudity keeps audiences thinking you are sexy. Otherwise they start offering you the 'Driving Miss Daisy' parts."

B-Fest 2003: Just six weeks left
That's right, folks, in just a little over six weeks, Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois (near Chicago) will host B-Fest, the annual 24-hour festival of b-movies. Quite frankly, this is the annual event for b-movie maniacs like the people who tune in to this site. (For those of you who prefer balmier climes, the New Orleans Worst Film Festival comes in a close second.)
The 2003 B-Fest will be held January 24 - 25 from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday. Swing by the official B-fest web site for more on this extravaganza of cinematic cheese!
