More Left Behind News

Also appearing on the show is John Tesh, whose song Deeper Faith graces LB2's soundtrack. Man, a Christian End Times thriller starring Kirk Cameron and featuring the musical styling of John Tesh! Cloud Ten Pictures (www.cloudtenpictures.com), the company responsible for many a faith based cheese fest (Left Behind 1 and 2, Deceived, etc.), reports that a Left Behind television series will be hitting Canadian screens in 2003. American viewers will have to make do with video and DVD releases of the show, which follows the inner workings of Anti-Christ Nicolae Carpathia's Global Community as well as the Tribulation Force's attempts to reveal the Evil for what it is. Why PAX didn't pick this hot chestnut up I don't know (they aired The Omega Code awhile back, after all). 13 episodes are currently planned for shooting in the spring, a website for the TV show is planned to go up in the coming weeks. I'll post a link when it does.

While we're on the Left Behind subject, CTP plans to replicate their successful Left Behind release with the sequel (Left Behind 2: Tribulation Force) of releasing the movie on video (this October) before a simultaneous opening in mainstream theaters and churches on December 31st. Don't laugh, the first Left Behind was the top seller, beating out both Toy Story 2 and The Green Mile to become #1 and it went on to become the Best-Selling Title of the Year by an Independent Studio - and preorders for LB2 ore higher than the first, so Left Behind 3: Nicolae (based on the third book in the series) might be announced in 2003. Never underestimate the Power of Cheese.

In more traditional bad movie news, Fangoria reports that Kari Wuhrer (sigh) has joined the cast of Rick Bota's currently filming Hellraiser: Deader. In more stomach churning news, Nicole Kidman has signed onto Frank Oz's black comedy remake of The Stepford Wives, it's being written by Paul Rudnick (Addams Family Values and the flop biopic Isn't She Great). You can have my seat for that one.

Steve Alten, author of the Jurassic Shark novels MEG and The Trench, is still marketing the dramatic rights to his first bestseller, the aforementioned Meg, which has been in project turnaround ever since Touchstone/Disney dropped it in the post-Deanzilla fallout. The later box office disappointment of Renny Harlin's Deep Blue Sea has not helped. But Alten in determined to launch a Jurassic Shark movie, so check out the giggle-inducing www.megpetition.com for a look at the greatest monster movie never made, there's a script sample and the assorted teaser posters that Alten has had whipping around the Internet for the past few years. Good luck Mr. Alten, you need it, and I say that completely without any sarcasm whatsoever, getting funding is hard work seldom rewarded.

Blue Underground (www.blue-underground.com) reports that the restored Maniac (William Lustig's naturally) will be screen in a non-competition showing on the first night of the New York City Horror Film Festival, 10:00PM Friday, October 25th.

R.I.P. Sid Pink

The Associated Press reports that Sidney Pink, producer/director of classic b-movies like REPTILICUS and JOURNEY TO THE SEVENTH PLANET, died Saturday at the age of 86. Pink was also considered the father of the feature length 3-D film. Looking his name up on IMDB, I come to learn that he was also an associate producer of THE TWONKY. That is not a movie you want to be associated with. Read the entire AP article here.

Farewell, Mr. Pink, and thanks for the wonderfully bad memories!
