Well the Halloween movies site reports that Region 2 Halloween fans have a boxed set of the thrillers to look forward to from Anchor Bay. The set will contain all Halloween movies save Part 6 (aka Curse of) and Halloween: Resurrection.

Good news and bad news regarding George A. Romero. The good news is that the director has recorded a commentary for the upcoming DVD of his cult hit The Crazies (aka Code Name: Trixie), which will be released by Blue Underground next year. The bad news? The famed writer/director no longer makes online appearances because he is sick and fed up with Trolls and decided to leave, frankly I don't blame him. Anonymity seems to bring out a real nasty/sick side of some people.

For those who haven't seen the Resident Evil 2 commercial the director made, the website www.georgearomero.com has a link to it on the news page.

Tom Savini's website (www.savini.com) reports that Romero's partner in grue is busy helping out Anchor Bay and Blue Underground stuff their upcoming DVDs for Dawn and Day of the Dead (AB) and Two Evil Eyes (BU) with gruesome goodies. Since Dawn was made minutes prior to the video revolution, Mr. Savini will have to record special supplements for Dawn's behind-the-scenes documentary, however he has more than enough home video of his crew on the Day and Evil Eyes projects, so that those discs will offer plenty of fly on the wall looks at the making of the cult movies.

Good evening, Mr. & Mrs. Fanboy and all the geeks at sea . . . let's go to press!

JESUS CHRIST, VAMPIRE HUNTER will be arriving on DVD sometime around Halloween. For those of you who haven't heard about this cult classic in the making, Jesus Christ and Mexican wrestling superstar El Santo wage war with an army of lesbian vampires who steal other people's skin and graft it onto their bodies so they can survive in the daylight. What else is there to say?

Dark Horizons reports that production begins on BAYWATCH: THE MOVIE begins shooting in Hawaii on September 9th. Who cares? What the world really wants is BAYWATCH NIGHTS: THE MOVIE based on the 2nd and final season of the series when it tried to be more like The X-Files and ended up coming across like a mentally retarded version of Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

Ain't It Cool News reports that shooting will begin in October on SNOOPAFLY starring (Duh!) Snoop Dogg. No clue just what the movie is about, but considering the title and the star, it's either going to be a blacksploitation spoof or an actual modern day blacksploitation film. At this rate, Snoop Dogg may very well be on his way to becoming, in terms of film quality, the black Hulk Hogan.

Access Hollywood reports that Jason (TEEN WOLF TOO) Bateman has joined the cast of FREDDY VS. JASON. If he dies a horrible, grisly death, it will make it worth the price of admission alone!

In other casting news, Rosario Dawson has joined the cast of The Rock's next action opus entitled, at least for now, HELLDORADO. JOSIE & THE PUSSYCATS, PLUTO NASH, and now HELLDORADO; she really needs a new agent advising her on which "mainstream" projects she chooses or just stick to art house movies. See what happens when playing the love interest in MIB II doesn't make you an instant superstar?

A few days ago, Dark Horizons ran a blurb about the Steven Seagal/Genghis Khan project. They also tossed in a tidbit stating that Seagal is also supposedly attached to two different Jimi Hendrix projects. Huh? Now Seagal wants to play Jimi Hendrix? All the make-up and CGI in the world couldn't pull that one off! It'll be interesting to see if we ever hear anymore about that and find out just what the hell it is all about.

If that last one wasn't funny enough, Dark Horizons' has reported some comments made by JAWS: THE REVENGE star Lance Guest's during a recent radio interview where he said that since making that movie he has been planning to write another sequel to star himself, but he's been waiting because he wanted it to be good. Waiting for it to be good? It's been 15 years and I don't think its going to get any better! It's no wonder Mr. Guest may have delusions of making JAWS 5 considering his biggest movie credit since making that turkey was a HART TO HART reunion movie. Lance Guest was the star of THE LAST STARFIGHTER. Now there's a film he might be able to sucker…I mean convince a producer to finance a sequel to all these years later. I think Catherine Mary Stewart may be looking for the work too.

Flash!

This just in! The Fangoria website reports that Lions Gate Films has picked up Rob Zombie's House of 1,000 Corpses for theatrical release, but that no 'formal' announcement has been made . . . yet. The movie has also been rated PG-13.

Just kidding! The film has been rated R for "strong sadistic violence/gore, sexuality and language." Sounds like good, clean hard rockin' fun to me. Let's hope it hits theaters this fall.

Fango also reports that Daniel Baldwin, Kari Wuhrer, and Vernon Wells have joined the cast of Stuart Gordon's currently filming hit man thriller King of the Ants.

Cinescape has some nifty news, though I REALLY have a bone to pick with their "for those of you unlucky enough to have seen Tremors" crack (or perhaps it was a typo, the comment is followed by a description that any and all who HAVE seen the movies know - that Gross plays a gun slinging survivalist turn Worm Fighter). Yes, Michael Gross is headlining the cast of the Tremors television series. It will be set predominantly in Perfection, Nevada and will also introduce various different monsters just to keep it fresh. Frankly this concept looks to have the shelf life of, say, Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

Rush Hour/Red Dragon director Brett Ratner's next two projects are a remake of the old cartoon Hong Kong Phooey and the inevitable Rush Hour 3. Ratner also dismisses rumors that Rush Hour 3 AND 4 would be filmed back to back. So far only Part 3 is in the planning stages.

The horror biopic Dahmer did well enough in its small, regional release that another serial killer biopic, this one about Ted Bundy, will get a similar release prior to its October 1st video release. They've done Ed, Jeff, and Ted, so whose next?

The George Romero fan site (www.georgearomero.com) has a report from Romero's appearance at the Fangoria convention. It seems that Romero is in very promising negotiations with Fox to produce Dead Reckoning (his fourth dead movie). At this time it appears that Fox will allow him to make the movie he wants . . . and then cut it to get an R rating. No word on whether or not Tom Savini will be doing the zombies. There is also a brief mention of a Night of the Living Dead TV series (which evidently incorporates Dead Reckoning's plot concepts) as well as an upcoming soundtrack for the remake of Night of the Living Dead (which, while I liked it, did not have a memorable score).

For those in the Chicagoland area, Joseph (The Prowler, Invasion U.S.A.) Zito and William (Maniac) Lustig will be at the Virgin Megastore at 540 North Michigan Avenue, to promote the new Blue Underground DVD label and offering a Q&A and autograph session. Somebody tell 'em Chadzilla says HI!

Good morning, Mr. & Mrs. Fanboy and all the geeks at sea . . . let’s go to press!

Even though HELLRAISER: HELLSEEKER, the latest installment in the never-ending horror franchise, doesn’t even hit video shelves until October 15, another sequel is already in the works and will begin shooting in Romania in just over a month. According to Fangoria, this one will be entitled HELLRAISER: DEADER which is a very appropriate title because this franchise couldn’t be deader. Let it die, people.

Fangoria also reports that the much-delayed (over 2 years) supernatural horror movie ISLAND OF DEATH aka PIÑATA aka SURVIVAL ISLAND aka DEMON ISLAND starring Nicholas Brendan (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER) and JAMIE PRESSLY (POISON IVY: THE NEW SEDUCTION) will finally get a limited theatrical release beginning August 30th. If you’ve seen the trailer for this film then you can probably guess why it has been collecting dust on the studio shelf and those that have seen the film have pretty much confirmed that it really is that bad too. Still, it will probably out-gross PLUTO NASH.

R. Lee Ermey, most famous for his Oscar nominated performance as the bombastic drill sergeant in FULL METAL JACKET and most recently of The History Channel’s MAIL CALL, has been cast in the role of Sheriff Hoyt in the TEXAS CHAIN-SAW MASSACRE remake. Well, that’s the first bit of good news I’ve heard regarding this pointless remake yet.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, JASON X screenwriter Todd Farmer will scribe SCARECROW for Revolution Studios. The horror film’s tired premise will be about a scarecrow that comes to life and terrorizes a rural farm family. Besides THE WIZARD OF OZ, has there ever been a movie about a scarecrow coming to life that wasn’t a homicidal maniac?

Ain’t It Cool News’ Moriarty aka Drew McWeeny and his screenwriting partner Scott Swan have successfully pitched a movie to Revolution Studios and will be paid something in the six-figure range to develop their screenplay about metabolically enhanced super soldiers. Killer scarecrows, UNIVERSAL SOLDIER redux, and THE NEW GUY; who is in charge of Revolution Studios (Flash site with sound) and are they intentionally trying to drive themselves out of business? Ever heard of Destination Films? At this rate, I suspect that’s where Revolution Studios is headed. (Unfortunately, their crappy films seem to be making money – XXX and Master of Disguise are both in the top 10 at this week's box office. XXX is even the top grossing film for the second week running, totalling about $85 million so far. -Ed.)

USA Network has announced they are developing a remake of the 1976 cult hit series THE BIONIC WOMAN. Well, this could either turn out to be campy fun or just painfully bad. USA is on a roll with THE DEAD ZONE and MONK, but let’s not forget this is also the network that gave us PACIFIC BLUE.

14 years after the disastrous release of her first feature film ELVIRA, MISTRESS OF THE DARK, Elvira’s back with a brand new movie. ELVIRA’S HAUNTED HILLS will be released on video/DVD on October 1st. Word is this film is actually not that bad and rather amusing. It would be hard for it to be worse than that last one. At this rate though, her next film will be released in the year 2016 and Elvira will be so long in the tooth that the film will be more along the lines of SEXTETTE than a horror comedy. Then again, SEXTETTE was something of a horror comedy if you think about it.

A company called "Digital Decadence" has plans to release an interactive DVD game called Virtual Prey (site has sound), in which damsel-in-distress Raven McCoy (Bonnie-Jill Laflin of Howard Stern Show fame) is pursued by "an unrelenting serial killer." The game appears to be a "pick the path" adventure game like Dragon's Lair, but with live-action footage instead of animation. The site is a bit bare of actual release info – photos and other supplemental material can be purchased to be shipped on September 3rd, but a release date and an anticipated price for the game itself are missing. Perhaps they are buried somewhere on the bulletin board, but I grew weary of the green-on-black text and constant chainsaw noises and soon gave up.
