Kane Hodder won't play Jason in Freddy vs Jason
"They want a different body type."
You can read the full story over at the Fangoria site, but here's the highlight:
To get an idea of what the filmmakers have in mind, the new Jason casting breakdown calls for an actor "who can emote pain and anguish over the loss of a loved one – [we're looking for] someone with poetic eyes." The idea is to make Jason a "sad, pathetic, Phantom of the Opera-type character," says our New Line source.
Jason redone as "a sad, pathetic, Phantom of the Opera-type character"!?!?!? And the amount of talent being wasted on a project that looked doomed from the moment it was promised at the close of Jason Goes to Hell. Still, I'll be getting a bargain matinee ticket for this, it should be worth a laugh at least.

Hi all,
For those you want to go retro, Cinema Secrets is offering a "Collector's Edition" of the Michael Myers mask (from Halloween: Resurrection). The complete skinny can be found here.
Well now Tom Savini has a secret society of his very own. The special effects/actor/writer/director superstar club offers the usual suspects of bonuses - autographed photo, card, special items, mouse pad, key chain, and whatnot. Go to www.savini.com for more.
The Phantasm novelization is here! Written by Kate Coscarelli (director Don's mom and a renowned romance writer, or so I've read) and just now available in the US of A from Pulp Xmachina press, you can check it out here. Also available is the Phantasm comic spin-off. Obviously Don Coscarelli is following George Lucas's media expansion techniques of one hit wonder franchise creator longevity, and more power to him for that.
Cinescape reports that Moonstone comics new and completely authorized Kolchak: The Night Stalker series hits shelves this December (ALL RRRRRIGHT!!!). It's a one-shot title, Fever Pitch, with a story penned by mystery writer Stuart M. Kaminsky.
More depressing news is the 3Dization of Night of the Living Dead, The Chinese Connection and, of all things, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (!?!?!). Razor 3D and X3D are doing the *ahem* honors. Meanwhile many classic movies slowly rot away in films vaults.
Kane Hodder may or may not be Jason in the upcoming Jason versus Freddy movie (which has a shooting schedule, Robert Englund and Brad Renfro signed on the cast roster, and Ronny Yu directing - so it looks to be happening). Whether or not the hulking stuntman/actor gets the part remains in serious debate. He seems to be a nice guy, so I hope he gets the part he plays so well.
Further sequel news has Robert Rodriguez slapping together a Spy Kids 3 for next year. I like the first one (my son has watched it a gazillion times) but have yet to see the second, so I reserve sarcastic comments about quality until they seem appropriate. Also Wolfgang Peterson has decided to film the Trojan War instead of Batman Versus Superman, so the super hero smack down has apparently been shelved – again.
What is a bright young hack to do after making Swimfan, that Fatal Attraction in High School remake? Well remake STRAW DOGS! Loosely that is, the setting is rural Maine (yo STEVE!) instead of England, but the basic story remains the same. The new title is Fear Itself (as in nothing to fear but... oh puh-leeze!).
Release wise, David Cronenberg's Spider (not a monster movie) will get a blink-and-you'll-miss one week theatrical run in December solely to qualify for the Oscars. A wider release is planned for February. Dimension pictures says it haunted submarine movie Below (from David Twohy, of Pitch Black fame) will open October 11th, a mere fourteen days before Warner Brothers haunted cruise liner movie Ghost Ship pulls into harbor. Expect some shuffling of the dueling aquatic spirit movies. By the way, the rather uninteresting trailer for GS is now up and running at www.ghostshipmovie.com. Also, child molesting director Victor Salva's sequel Jeepers Creepers 2 has been bumped from February to April 18th 2003, to give the comic book Daredevil plenty of room at the box office.
It seems that after Jonathan Mostow finishes T3: Rise of the Machines he will helm an adaptation of Orson Scott Card's thriller Lost Boys. That at least seems more interesting than his current project.
Thanks for reading,

The Independent Film Channel will be showing an original documentary tonight entitled BaadAsssss Cinema: A Bold Look at '70s Blaxploitation Films. It features appearances by directors, actors, film historians, and more, including Larry Cohen, Pam Grier, Bell Hooks, Elvis Mitchell, Quentin Tarantino, Melvin van Peebles, and Fred Williamson. Sounds like a treat not to be missed! Although, darnit, we don't get IFCTV in my area. Premieres tonight at 10 p.m. EST, followed by a showing of Foxy Brown. Check your local TV schedule for additional times.

Good morning, Mr. & Mrs. Fanboy and all the geeks at sea…let’s go to press!
Bad casting galore seems to be the order of the day! If reports of Steven Seagal playing Genghis Khan wasn’t bad enough, Ain’t It Cool News now reports that Josh Hartnett looks to donning the tights as the Man of Steel in the forthcoming BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN movie and that Chris Tucker is rumored to be taking Mike Myers place as Inspector Clouseau in the proposed remake of THE PINK PANTHER. You know, sometimes no news is good news. Right now, I wish had no news to report.
SON OF THE MASK is the title of the next installment (not a sequel) in THE MASK film franchise. Franchise? There’s only been one movie! Sci-Fi Wire reports this one will be about a cartoonist who suddenly finds himself raising a baby endowed with the powers of the mask of Loki. Anyone who has ever endured BABY GENIUSES knows that this premise is already dead on arrival. Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz won’t be found anywhere within the vicinity of this MASK and, most likely, neither will I if and when it ever gets made.
I can say without shame that I have never seen I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE and have never had any desire to do so. However, if I were ever going to do so, it wouldn’t be until November 26th when the DVD is released. Why? Because it will feature an audio commentary track by none other than Joe Bob Briggs! Hopefully his potentially MST3K-like commentary can make what’s widely considered one of the most loathsome movies ever made entertaining.
Only 3 more days until the opening of PLUTO NASH! Are you excited? Come on, this one is so bad the studio kept it on the shelf for almost 2 years.
Also, in case nobody has told you, that sequel to the direct-to-video giant killer snake movie PYTHON (Not to be confused with KING COBRA, BOA, or VENOMOUS) airs this Saturday on the Sci-Fi Channel. The sequel is titled PYTHONS 2. Apparently they couldn’t decide if they wanted to use a plural title like with ALIENS or simply use an old fashioned numeral and just said, “screw it,” and decided to have it both ways.
Well, I’m bound and determined to end this update on a positive note so let me leave you with this tidbit of good news. As of today, there are no more CHILDREN OF THE CORN sequels in the works. At least, I hope not.
